Where to next for Davey Todd?!
Honestly, you can’t write it… well, we didn’t anyway! We left last week's letter as long as possible for Michael Dunlop to announce his participation in the Armoy races, we said he wasn’t going then the night the newsletter went out he announced ‘ok, I’m here’. Bless him!
What a weekend of action it was at Armoy as Uggly&Co-backed Davey Todd and Joey Thompson took to the lanes of County Antrim with Carl Cox Motorsport’s Michael Dunlop making his welcome return. MD took the win and a new lap record in the Supersport race ahead of Todd as well as securing the Supertwin race in place of the injured Jamie Coward, the Superbike Open race, and rounding the event off with his 10th Race of Legends victory, taking his unbeaten winning streak to 29, the most successful rider ever at Armoy.
After the weekend Davey Todd announced on his vlog that Armoy was his last race event for the Milenco by Padgetts Honda team. It’s been a torrid season for the Saltburn rider and something had to give. With a limited budget, the team struggled to get the best from the Motec electronics in BSB and a disappointing TT campaign couldn’t replicate the successes of 2022, a Supersport win at the NW200 the only highlight of a difficult year so far.
So, where next for the reigning National Superstock Champion? Honda? It seems unlikely that Davey will step up to the factory team, he’s done that before and it’s not his style as he can’t be himself, and being himself is what he does best. BMW? It’s possible, it’s a proven package on the roads and BSB. Kawasaki? There’s a seat available for ’24 but it’s not the strongest overall package. It’s unlikely we’ll see Davey out at Thruxton (although we’ve been wrong before, as last week proved) but
there’s some hope he’ll be back on track at Cadwell Park but with who and what class remains to be seen! We’ll keep you up to date when anything official is announced.
