Gary, who tragically passed during last year’s event, was more than just a talented rider – he was a close friend.

Gary’s passing left a hole that can never truly be filled, and while the pain of that loss remains, we knew we had to honor him in a way that reflected both his memory and the bond we shared with him. Gary was one of our first-ever riders, and from the moment he joined us, he became an integral part of our journey. His presence, his passion, and his talent will forever be etched into the fabric of our history.

A Tribute to a Life Well-Lived

As we reflected on how to pay tribute to Gary, it became clear that the tribute had to be something special – something that embodied not only his legacy as a rider but also his life outside the track. Gary was a skilled welder by trade, a craftsman. We knew that any tribute worthy of him had to involve metal – a nod to his trade and the essence of who he was.

We reached out to renowned metal artist Alan Williams to bring our vision to life. Alan’s work is known for its striking beauty and intricate detail, and we felt that his unique style would be the perfect way to capture the spirit of Gary. Together, we commissioned a piece that would forever commemorate Gary’s legacy – a stunning metal replica of his racing helmet.

The design of the helmet was inspired not only by Gary’s iconic racing gear but also by the art of welding itself. The intricate metalwork reflects both the artistry of Gary’s craft and the intensity of the sport he loved so much. The helmet is not just a symbol of his career; it’s a tribute to the man behind the helmet – a man who poured heart and soul into everything he did, on and off the track.

A Lasting Legacy at the Black Dub

The finished piece will be displayed at the Black Dub, our supported venue on Mile 9 of the Isle of Man TT course – a fitting location where Gary’s memory will live on. The Black Dub is a place that embodies the spirit of the TT, where riders and fans gather to share stories, celebrate achievements, and remember those we’ve lost. It feels right that this tribute will find a home here, where it can be seen by the countless visitors who come to pay homage to the Isle of Man’s racing history.

But it wasn’t enough to just create this piece for the venue. Gary’s family, too, deserved a special memento of the man they lost too soon. As a mark of our respect and affection, an identical piece has been crafted for his family, a token of our love and remembrance that they can hold close as they continue to navigate the pain of their loss.

A Special Rider, A Special Man

Gary Vines may no longer be with us, but his legacy will never fade. He was not only a talented rider but also a kind-hearted, humble man who brought joy to those around him. His laughter, his passion, and his friendship are memories we will always cherish. The metal sculpture, with its intricate design and meaningful symbolism, will serve as a permanent reminder of the man who touched so many lives in such a profound way.

As we continue our journey, Gary will always be a part of us. He was one of our first-ever riders, and his impact on our team and the motorcycling community is immeasurable. This tribute, this piece of art, is our way of remembering him – of honoring the memory of a man who was so much more than just a rider.

Rest in peace, Gary. #23 will never be forgotten.
